AGING GRACEFULLY AND SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS
The Manor Village Life Centers
Like many things in life that just happen; Garth Mann’s mother was living alone in 1991, and she was missing the socialization of being with people enjoying quality meals and exercise programs. She told her son, that she was ready to move to a supportive care center. However, she gave explicit directions that she was only 86 years young, and she would not accept living in a government nursing home for old people.
Dr Mann searched the city, only to discover that nothing would suit the needs of his aging mother. Like any good son, he decided to build the first Manor Village Life Center in Calgary, Canada that would accommodate her needs.
The risk of illness or disability continues with age. The Manor Village were designed to respect and preserve the Independence of each Resident. This meant involving the family in regular events, while ensuring that the ratio of staff to residents was adequate to meet the requirements for services and safety.

The Academy of Aging is a non-profit Canadian Society that focuses on the Dynamics for Healthy Aging through the prevention of Chronic Health Diseases, that often result in premature aging and memory loss with aging.
The Dynamics for Healthy Aging
The human body is without a doubt, the finest instrument—facility—equipment—computer—tool—or whatever you wish to call it; that could ever be created. It is unlikely man will ever be able to create the capacity of man, without the male & female genetic interaction.
If you respect your body—mind—spirit, you have an excellent opportunity for longevity beyond 80 and even 90 and perhaps 100 years young.
The Formula
There are only 4 PILLARS or recommendations for living a long and cheerful life, that regretfully, most people tend to ignore. Many people feel that since health care is paid by our Canadian Provinces, good health is the government’s responsibility. Why take blame for your lifestyle if your primary care doctor can prescribe medications? After all, since healthcare is FREE, it must have no value. RIGHT or WRONG?

PILLAR 1
Your body and mind cannot respond well to the aging process without a daily stretch & flex mobility program, involving a planned sequence to prep your body & mind for exercise.
ONLY 35 MINUTES EVERY MORNING
10 minutes for loosening up with stretch & flex training.
10 minutes of aerobics to maintain your target heart rate (THR) based on age & conditioning. For new-starts, calculate your heart rate @ 220 minus your age; and maintain your THR at 65%.
5 minutes for unwinding following your aerobic training.
10 minutes for resistance training, enabling your joints—ligaments—muscles to remain toned.
PILLAR 2
Your body and mind need to be fed with nourishing foods that you can metabolize or digest, that is based on your age and genetic factors.
PREPARE YOUR CUISINE ONE DAY IN ADVANCE
Recommend a Mediterranean diet, starting with a breakfast of brans / hot oatmeal, topped with multiple berries & non-allergic nuts; served with boiling water versus dairy; will fit most adults
If possible, make lunch your main meal of the day. A fish or chicken dish is ideal, served with vegetables, fruits, and lettuces. Cutting back on calorie intake by 25% daily for the rest of your life will show marked improvements for several biomarkers tied to longevity.
Dinner should not be eaten after 6:00 pm. Reduce this meal to soups—stews—stir-fry with copious amounts of vegetables and a salad. Reduction of dinner calories among those 65 and older is associated with a 67% decrease in mortality risk.
PILLAR 3
Your body & mind cannot be abused with excessive PHARMA. A solution to healthy aging & preserving memory involves de-stressing, not less than once per day.
GETTING IN THE SLEEP-ZONE INVOLVES UNWINDING BEFORE SLEEP
Mindful-Meditation is a marvelous program assisting your understanding how your thinking process function. We all function uniquely.
Start by forgoing coffee or stimulants before sleep. Accept that it is healthy to be active during the day.
Now turn off the TV and computer and cell phone and enjoy a warm bath with soft music.
Then sit on a rug beside your bed and close your eyes and give gratitude for your inner strength, as you listen to Academy of Aging’s series of mindful meditation sessions.
Follow the script for 10 minutes for de-stressing your mind and preparing you to get ready for sleep.
PILLAR 4
Social activities, mind stimulating entertainment, being creative with arts and crafts or music, or studying a new language, engaging in your favorite sporting activity, all enhance the neural pathways to our brain.
Mental stimulation by associating with friends and associates keeps our minds active. Continue to learn new activities throughout life to avoid anxiety and depression, leading to dementia.
The goal is not to expect that you can avoid all illnesses and viral flus. The purpose is to recover faster because you have protected and enhanced your body and mind with a strong immune system. You enjoy your life through the people that you want to socialize with.
The dynamics for healthy aging, is recognizing that most chronic health conditions including some cancer are co-morbidities towards dying.
Surviving a virus such as Covid-19 is preventable by following the 4 Pillars.
